RPM Jump Ropes

Having your own high quality jump rope, sized just for you, is a real treat. A good rope makes any kind of jump roping a lot easier. It’s not a magic double under pill, but it will really enhance your skill level. RPM makes probably the best and fastest rope on the market, and we just got a special …

The King of the Platform

You never know who you are going to run into at the CrossFit Games. I am not a much of a fan kind of person in general, but when you meet Kendrick Farris–the king of the platform–you can’t help but be stoked. He was extremely nice, humble, and polite, and after talking to him for a little while, I …

Off The Charts

The CrossFit Games this year were just amazing. The organization, the scale, the spectators, the athletes. Every event started right on time, the performances were just mind boggling, and 25,000 people crammed into the Stubhub Center with no problems, no fights, no arrests (and the beer lines were long). All in all, it was an off-the-charts success. Workout:

Three-peat!

Another CrossFit Games are in the book – a new female champion has been crowned (Samantha Briggs) and Rich Froning has won his 3rd consecutive male title.  The CrossFit Games are fun… and definitely sensational.  But for me, above all, they are inspirational.  Hit it hard.  We may never be Rich Froning, but we can always strive to be better …

It Begins

I have been to every CrossFit Games since the first one in 2007 at the Ranch in Aromas. Having seen the near exponential growth of the Games, you would think that I would not be surprised by each successive year’s Games. But I am. Stunned is more like it. I walked into the Stubhub Center (the former Home Depot Center) …

New Week

A new week is here. What are you doing this week that is better than last week–more, faster, stronger, efficient, kinder. Each week is a chance to be a better person. What are you doing? Workout:

Welcome Back

argument essay thesis For those who would like to see the “Behind The Neck Jerk” in action, here’s a couple cool old-school videos from one of my very favorite places anywhere in the world.  The Boys  video and  The Girls video.  The Boys video stars Kelley Starrett, Tony Budding, Adrian Bozman, and, yes, yours truly, haha, though I mostly Push-Press rather than Jerk. …

The Games Cometh

The 2013 CrossFit Games are almost here. The Masters Divisions take the field in exactly one week, next Tuesday. The Individuals and Teams start that Friday (supposedly). CrossFit West Santa Cruz’s podium hopeful Chris Kulp–the Professor–will be on site this Sunday, intimidating his opponents and getting sized for the mountains of gear and swag that CrossFit gives the competitors. Attendance …

Mobilize!

Mobility is one of the central ingredients to both efficiency and longevity of movement. Fluidity, flexibility, mobility, stretchy, bendy-ness, whatever you want to call it, it is key, absolutely key, to good movement and a healthy and fit body. Some movements, the snatch for example, are more expressions of mobility, technique, and positioning, than they are of strength. Unfortunately, mobility …

Muscle Up!

Fresh on the heels of Jason’s post from last Friday, wherein he mentions that Bilal will get a muscle up, Bilal nails his first muscle up today at Open Gym. Great work Bilal, and yeah, this CrossFit stuff is pretty awesome. Workout:

How Bad Do You Want It?

professional resume writing services In a recent post, Sam wrote about the significance of milestones in CrossFit.  Within that post he mentioned how both Tony C. and Naomi K. recently got their first Muscle-Up, a significant milestone in one’s athletic development.  Just as Sam, I too remember very clearly my first Muscle-Up.  I was stoked to get my first one …

Milestones

CrossFit is replete with milestones. The first pullup or muscle up, first handstand pushup, first Rx’d workout, first double bodyweight lift. While it is true to say that there is always another milestone around the corner–just Rx’d Grace for the first time?, no do it sub 4 minutes or three minutes or two, individual milestones count for a lot. There …

Relativity

Relativity is kind of an unrecognized concept in CrossFit. Officially, in the Games for example, relativity does not exist, but it’s hard to argue that it doesn’t in real life. What the heck do I mean? Here, try this, a man who I think has a lot of very good things to say once wrote that two hundred pounds is …
