185#!

185 pounds! That’s how much Brookie snatched for a big ole 1st place yesterday at the NorCal Regionals. That 1st, coupled with strong finishes on the other two events of the day, puts her in 4th place overall among a field of seriously strong and tough women as she enters Day Two of the competition. Tune into the live feed …

Heart

At their best, competitions are displays of heart. At the NorCal Regionals, you will see plenty of heart. Great performances, certainly, but what it usually comes down to is heart. Something that is almost overwhelmingly unique to a CrossFit competition, however, is that the spectators will also be showing plenty of heart themselves. The loudest cheers will be for the …

Regional Info

The gates will open for spectators at 8am with the competition beginning at 9am all three days. While we don’t have exact heat info yet, the teams will finish all their events first and then the individuals will take the field. Unlike the past NorCal Regionals, this year’s event is taking place indoors. While this has a lot of advantages …

Counting Rounds

Ok folks, this is getting a little ridiculous. I totally understand needing an external way to keep track of rounds on a longer WOD or AMRAP, but the chalk marks are getting out of control. The gym is cleaned 5 nights a week by a dedicated cadre of cleaners, but they really shouldn’t have to be scrubbing away 10 inch …

Cookies by Kayla

In honor of National Chocolate Chip Day (May 15th), I wanted to share my absolute FAVORITE chocolate chip cookie recipe with all you hard workers! Judging from how delectable and satisfying these cookies are, they could be considered currency in some cultures. They are gluten-free which is an additional plus (your gut told me to tell you “Thanks”), and the …

The Community

Former CrossFit West coach, and current CrossFit 831 co-owner, Dylan S was back in the gym competing in Wednesday’s Fight Club. Talking to him reminded me once again just how great  the people who make up this amazing community really are. It made me realize how eager I am for the NorCal Regional comp at the end of the month …

Fight Club

Fight Club is back at CrossFit West tonight; 7:30 start time. This time, it’s an individual competition with no special gear needed. Show up early to get your warm up in. Who’s bringing it?

Jack Hunter

Please join me in wishing a huge congratulations to John Van Every, the owner of our fellow affiliate CrossFit Longevity, and his wife Erica on the birth of their son Jack Hunter Van Every.

Kayla Sez “Hydrate!”

On a scale from 1 to the Mississippi River, how important is hydration? Ocean. My answer is ocean. First off, our bodies are comprised of mostly water (Salt water to be specific. Next time you have a pal who states that they’re afraid of the sea, be sure to remind them that they are made up of about 70% salt …

Cheating

I read an interesting article today about the Orange County Marathon run last Sunday. The men’s winner was just disqualified when a couple cell phone videos came to light of the winner cheating. This wasn’t indirect cheating in the sense of blood doping or something, but direct cheating on the race course by having a cyclist pace him and constantly …
