Adaptation Over Time

Milos of Croton, 6th Century BC wrestler from the Magna Graecian city of Croton in Southern Italy and 6 time Olympic Champion was known for his feats of strength.

One of the world’s first real strongmen was Milo of Croton.  It is said that he gained his legendary conditioning through the coaching of his father, who, gave him a calf, and, each day, directed Milo to go and fetch the calf.  Milo, the dutiful son, would go and do so, throwing the calf over his shoulders and coming back in from the fields–just as his father commanded.  Over time, the calf grew into a bull, and so, the story goes, did Milo’s strength.  Now, a bull can grow upwards of two-thousand pounds, i.e. a ton.  Plain and simple, a ton is probably too much weight to be hauling around.  What you need is a pig.  That’s why we’re proud to offer the J-Fit fitness pig.  We’ve made deals with local farmers here in central california to deliver piglets (shotes the farmers call ‘em) to the first 40 customers to act now (as of this posting, 39 piglets are still available).  Over the next twelve months I will design a regiment to be performed daily with you and your J-Fit fitness pig, and, together, we will tap into the same routine that made Milo the strongman of the ages.

The J-Fit Fitness Pig!

The J-Fit fitness pig – just one more way that J-Fit and CrossFit West are taking fitness to the streets.  I chose Lester (the red-head on the left).  I can’t wait for him to be a full grown boar so I can jog past my local Starbucks with Lester on my shoulders.  That’ll be something for all the Sunday morning cyclists with their $10,000 rigs to think about.

…Hahaha.

…On a more serious note, …as per Sam’s post yesterday, the Regional Competitions have been, and are continuing to be, truly incredible and exciting events.  The performances by CrossFit Athletes in the Regional’s thus far has just been truly awesome and I can’t wait to see what epic performances and feats are yet to come as the Regionals continue to unfold.

As most of you know, CrossFit West Santa Cruz has fielded an incredibly dedicated and competitive team for the NorCal Regionals that will be taking place May 18th-20th, at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.  (That’s in less than TWO weeks!!)

Team CrossFit West Santa Cruz!

Since earning CrossFit West a bid in the NorCal Regionals, and an opportunity for us to compete against the best in NorCal at a chance of making the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games, …John Van Every, Chris Morse, Matt Malone, EriCa Barnum, Alicia Bailey, and Liz Stewart, have all been putting in several hours a day, often twice a day, training, foam-rolling, practicing, strategizing, …pushing themselves incessantly to get better and strengthening their bond as a Team.

While this photo certainly captures their sense of humor, …the fact of the matter is they have each made huge sacrifices in their lives overall, taking time from their families and friends, and working tirelessly at giving all of us here at CrossFit West Santa Cruz the best chance possible of having a home team to cheer for at the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games that will be aired Live on ESPN2.

They aren’t putting in all this hard work for their own glory either.  …They are doing it for all of us.  They want to make you, and everyone here at CrossFit West Santa Cruz, proud, and it shows through their continued sacrifice.

I strongly encourage all of you to come out and support our Team at the NorCal Regionals this year.  Even if you can only make it out for a day, your presence and support of our team will most definitely be felt and truly appreciated.  I assure you, EriCa, Alicia, Liz, Johnny, Chris and Matt, the CrossFit West Santa Cruz Team, will all give everything they have as athletes, competitors and human beings, and do their best to secure CrossFit West a bid in the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games.  …They have been training for this very event all year.

Please, let’s all go support our team and fight for them the way they are fighting for us.  🙂

The NorCal Regional is May 18th-20th, at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.  Tickets to the comp are right here.

…Let’s all go scream, yell, drink mead, and make our presence known as we cheer for our Home Team while we watch one of the most competitive Regions in all the world go toe to toe in what will undoubtedly prove to be a truly epic event!
