In Memory of Momentous Events

Natalie; rock solid mid Sots press.

The past couple of months have held the anniversaries of some truly momentous events.

August 6th-the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima (1945)

July 14th-Bastille Day (France)

July 4th-Independence Day (USA)

June 6th-the Invasion of Normandy, D-Day (1944)

These four events have had huge influence on the world as it is today.  You might not hear much about them these days, but their impact can be felt in so many ways. Mention something about the world today, and you can probably trace the lines back to or through one of these events.  Not that these four events were the cause of everything, but the influence is certainly there.

Everyday, in CrossFit boxes everywhere, people are doing things that resonate hugely in their lives.  It might be a time or weight–a sub 8 Helen or 2xBW deadlift, a first movement–a muscle up or pullup, or simply an unexpected goal.  But, that event will exert its influence in ways that you could never expect, just as the four events above have done.

I guess my purpose with this post is two-fold.

We must never forget these events and happenings.  Only extremely rarely does anything happen in a vacuum, and knowledge of what has happened before adds immensely to understanding of what is happening now.

We can create our own mythology, our own history.  In times of stress and trouble, of insecurity or doubt, you can harken back to those moments which are resonators in your life. Just as the French Revolution has exerted sway on the course of world events since 1789, or has the dropping of Little Boy in 1945, so will your own momentous events from the CrossFit box affect the very rest of your life.
