CrossFit West Santa Cruz is very pleased to welcome a new coach to its training staff.  Jason Highbarger is one of the most experienced coaches in CrossFit, having been one of the very first to train with Coach Greg Glassman here in Santa Cruz at least a decade ago.  Normally I prefer to hire from within the CF West community, but when Jason expressed an interest in teaching at CFWSC, we jumped at the chance to add a trainer of his caliber to our already excellent roster of trainers.

I have written about him quite a bit over the past year, as I used to regularly attend his classes at the the old HQ.  Jason’s classes were known for both their advanced and their heavy element.  I have always found him to be an innovative trainer with a very technical eye.  Jason’s programming is one of the main sources for my own hard and heavy programming philosophy.

As a coach, Jason has worked with many professional athletes, in sports ranging from football to mixed martial arts, as well as the everyday CrossFitter.  As an athlete, Jason was one of the original CrossFit firebreathers  (think nearly double bodyweight push press), and his intensity will be a welcome addition to the box.

In short folks, we are very lucky to have Jason teaching at CF West and please join me in welcoming him warmly.  Jason will be teaching the Monday and Wednesday (Friday in June) 6am classes to start.  On a strictly personal note, I feel very honored and a little intimidated to be working with Jason and I look forward to a long collaboration.

A couple other points of interest:

Schedule changes–Monday and Wednesday evening classes are now at 5 and 6pm.  A new 6:30pm class has been added on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Both changes effective immediately.

This coming Friday, May 22nd, is our own Molly McVeigh’s birthday and CF West is holding a celebration workout at the 4pm class.  I hope to see everyone there.
