We did the Filthy Fifty today at CrossFit West Santa Cruz. It was the WOD on the main site today and for some reasons chippers have a lot of appeal. The Filthy Fifty is one of the few chippers to appear on the main site and, I believe, the only regularly repeating one.

I think people find chippers fun because you don’t have to repeat any of the movements. There are no rounds. Let’s face it, I would rather do 50 reps with light weight of a new movement than repeat part of Fran, or Elizabeth. I know it sounds like I am down on chippers, but I’m not. They are great metcons that really push the limits of one’s stamina and endurance. However, they won’t build power and strength the way other WODs will. So enjoy a good chipper when it appears, but don’t make them your main focus.

Handstand Push Ups between each couplet 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

For example, do 21 swings and 21 box jumps and then 7 handstand push ups. Then 18 swings, 18 box jumps, and 6 hspu and so on.
