Weightlifting at the Olympics

Klokov wins gold at the 2010 Worlds.

There has been some fantastic performances (triple bodyweight clean and jerk!) at the 2012 Olympics in London, but a bunch of controversy and disappointment as well. One of the stars of international weightlifting and a real gold medal contender, Russian 105kg lifter Dimitri Klokov is the latest big name to withdraw from competition. Apparently it is due to a knee injury, but honestly who knows. My favorite lift of the Olympics so far has been Kazakhstan’s 94kg lifter Ilya Ilin’s world record and gold worthy 233kg (512.6lbs!) clean and jerk. He made it look so easy. Check it out.

This Wednesday US National Weightlifting Championship silver medalist Ian Droze will teach the first of his twice monthly O-lifting workshops. Be there or be square. All the info is here.
