Why CrossFit Makes Me Smile

I walked in to the box today to see a flurry of activity – truly on par with a medieval battlefield.  Collectively I saw thousands of pounds of weight flying through the air, people climbing ropes, swinging on rings, and jumping on boxes.  It actually could’ve made for an excellent “Where’s Waldo” scene (Waldo does CrossFit, right?).  Although this would make your average human being run for the hills, when I was confronted with this display of madness, all I could do was smile.  The energy was INCREDIBLE.  Everybody was there, sweating, gasping for air, testing their bodies to the maximum, all for 1 reason: to be better.  That is why CrossFit makes me smile.  It’s not my performance or my PR’s – in the grand scheme of things, they really are not that thrilling.  It’s the people around me: their struggles, their achievements, their progress.  THAT is why CrossFit makes me smile.

Tomorrow, 4/29/2011 at 10:30am at Imperial Courts (near Bangkok West by Cabrillo College), the “Clash of the Titans” is going down. Two-time Handball collegiate singles champion (and CF West member) Courtney Peixoto will battle CrossFit Longevity owner John Van Every.  There are a million things I could say about this match (as well as John’s general appearance most days), but I’ll let the photos tell the story.  Who do you think will win?
